“Old” & Improved: Historic Cheyenne Depot Holds Ribbon Cutting for Renovations
The historic UPRR, Cheyenne, WY (2025) by Courtney Walston

History and modernity just got a little closer in Cheyenne...

Join the City of Cheyenne on May 13, 2025 at 1:30 PM for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to recognize and celebrate the completion of the $1.4 million dollar renovation project, which included:

  • Development of a pedestrian patio on the southwest side of the building, complete with brick pavers, shade structures, tables, benches, and other amenities;
  • Renovation of the first-floor restrooms;
  • Repair and replacement of the main lobby doors;
  • Upgrades to the exterior fencing along the Union Pacific Railroad;
  • Renovation of the kitchen area next to the Depot’s lobby to allow for catering or a concessionaire; and
  • Other smaller improvements.

Built in 1886, the Depot is a National Historic Landmark with a long history of serving our community. For many years, it operated as a passenger station, until Union Pacific donated the building to the City in the 1990's. Since then, it has become home to Fridays on the Plaza, the local New Year's Eve ball drop, and many more events. As a signature backdrop to life in Cheyenne, the renovation efforts’ blend of preservation and upkeep serve as a great investment in local history and culture.

Other, exciting changes on the horizon include a newcomer to the Depot lobby: Barrett Creek Coffee! Pick up one of their signature drinks and relax a while on the new pedestrian patio. Don’t worry, they offer more than just coffee, if that’s not your cup of tea *wink*. Check out their menu on their Facebook page.

And don’t forget to check out the Friday’s on the Plaza lineup for this year, which kicks off on June 6th with Gym Class Heroes!
