It's Time To Cowboy Up!
The Wyoming Cowboys football team will be appearing today in the Arizona Bowl as they take on the Georgia State Panthers at 2:30 PM. Since the establishment of the team in 1892, Wyoming has appeared in 15 bowl games with today making number 16! The Cowboys' overall bowl game record is seven wins and eight losses. The Cowboys are seven-point favorites over the Panthers according to recent computer models, so hopefully the Pokes will find their 8th bowl win today!
On January 1, 1951 the Cowboys won their first bowl game against Washington & Lee at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville under head coach Bowden Wyatt. They have won 3 times at the Sun Bowl (1956, 1958, 1966), the Las Vegas Bowl (2004) and the New Mexico Bowl (2009). Their most recent win came on December 22, 2017 at the Idaho Potato Bowl. Head coach, Craig Bohl, along with his star quarterback, Josh Allen, lead the Cowboys to a 37-14 victory over Central Michigan.
This will be Craig Bohl's 3rd bowl game as the head coach for Wyoming. He will be relying on running back Xazavian Valladay, who has rushed for over 1,000 yards this year with 5 touchdowns, to help lead the Cowboys to a victory. Freshman Levi Williams is expected to be in as the quarterback due to Sean Chambers being out with a knee injury. During the Air Force game Williams rushed for 79 yards.
The Cowboys are 6th in the nation against the run, allowing only 99.4 yards per game on the ground. Linebacker Logan Wilson is leading the charge with 98 tackles and 4 interceptions on the season. Safety Alijah Halliburton is leading the team with 119 tackles (11th in FBS).
The Arizona Bowl will be on channel CBSS at 2:30 PM Mountain time. The Wyoming Cowboys are geared up and ready to win today's Arizona Bowl! Put on your brown and gold and cheer on the Cowboys. Go Pokes!!
