Have Your Voice Heard

Today, Tuesday, September 22nd, is National Voter Registration Day. The Laramie County Clerk's office is teaming up with the Cheyenne League of Women Voters in an effort to encourage eligible citizens of Cheyenne to register to vote, and be heard at the ballot box. "We encourage all those who are eligible to join us and register before the November General Election," said County Clerk Debra Lee.  

To help celebrate women's suffrage and encourage registration League members dressed in period costumes at the Laramie County Governmental Complex today. They are handing out commemorative suffrage materials along with the Wyoming coin celebrating the 150th anniversary of women's right to vote.

Louisa Swain, at about the age of 69, was the first woman in the United States to vote in a general election 150 years ago in Laramie, WY. The Wyoming territory recognized women’s right to vote, to hold office and to own property in 1869.
