From Conception To Reality: The Capitol Avenue Bronze Project Is Underway

The Capitol Avenue Bronze Project is bringing more beautiful art to downtown Cheyenne. On Monday, October 4th, Mayor Patrick Collins held a press conference announcing that new bronze statues will be featured on each corner down Capitol Avenue from the Union Pacific Train Depot to the Wyoming Capitol building. The statues will feature western figures, people and wildlife, scenes from everyday life; all of which will honorably represent Cheyenne, Wyoming and its people. Each statue will be made possible through private donations.

It has been a dream of Harvey Deselms, Owner of Deselms Fine Art Gallery, back in 2012 to have bronze pieces placed along 17th St. and House Ave. Several sculptures have already been installed, including "Fast Food," by Delmar Pettigrew (pictured below) at the corner of 17th St. and Warren Ave.

Since then, the project has now flourished into a much bigger idea of installing bronze statues on all four corners of intersections throughout downtown. Three pedestals will soon be installed to display some of the bronze art pieces as part of the ongoing Capitol Avenue Bronze Project.

"Priority Mail" by Bobbie Carlyle will be installed on the northwest corner of 21st Street and Capitol Avenue by the downtown Post Office.

"Devoted" by Chuck Weaver will be installed on the southeast corner of 18th Street and Capitol Avenue. This piece was donated by Dee Weaver on behalf of her late husband.

"Hard to Leave" by Bobbie Carlyle will be placed at the Depot Museum next to the already placed bronze woman sculpture titled, "New Beginnings," and is expected to be installed this summer.

To keep the art project going additional donations are needed to fully fund some of the bronze statues such as the "Priority Mail" piece. Donors will have the opportunity to have their names placed on a plaque that will be displayed along with the bronze art piece.
