"Sigh" For The Heroine, "Boo" The Villain During A Virtual Old Fashioned Melodrama
This Friday and Saturday night the Cheyenne Little Theater Players are presenting a Virtual Old Fashioned Melodrama for you to enjoy right in your own home! They will be performing online "The Rhyming Rapscallion, or A Tale that Goes from Bad to Verse, or Dirk and Tallen Hansome!" written by Brook Reeves and Rory Mack. The shows will start at 7:00 PM on May 1st and May 2nd. You will be able to find the YouTube link at facebook.com/CLTPCheyenne/ starting at 6:30 PM on the evening of the reading.
The actors in this production, Jacob Sones, Brooks Reeves, Athena Sones, Alyssa Hope Kirby, Nancy Stange, Cathie Chadwick, Rory Mack, and Todd Martin, will be doing a stage reading of the melodrama from their respective homes, in order to practice social distancing. The show will be recorded via video call, and audiences will be able to link to the YouTube stream to watch the show. A donation of $10 is encouraged.
Due to COVID-19, earlier this year the CLTP canceled the remaining performances of their production "The Wind in the Willows" in March. They also had to cancel their spring musical "Cabaret". The cancellation of these shows puts a financial strain on the CLTP with a mortgage and employees they still need to pay.
“A number of us (were) brainstorming ways to keep in touch with our patrons and volunteers. And plus, in all honesty, when we don’t do shows, we don’t make any money that can help us keep the doors open,” said CLTP Managing Director Todd Martin. To help soften this financial burden, the idea of presenting a Virtual Old Fashioned Melodrama was born.
“I think people are starved for entertainment,” Martin said. “They can’t go to theater, films, concerts, those kinds of things. … We’re just trying to fill this void, not only for our patrons, but also for our volunteers. Our volunteers are missing performing; it’s what they love to do, so this has been really difficult for them.”
