Be a Pick Up Man: A Yellow Feather Can Start a Conversation—and Save a Life

You may have noticed yellow feathers showing up on hats, counters, and in windows across town. These small, bright symbols carry a big message: You’re not alone.
Inspired by the rodeo’s unsung heroes, the pick-up men, this campaign reminds us all to be a steady hand for those in need. In the arena, the pick-up man is a literal lifesaver — riding in fast to rescue a cowboy in trouble. Out here in the real world, we can all take on that role. A check-in. A text. A conversation. It could make all the difference.
Country music legend Garth Brooks joined the movement in 2022, lending his voice to a heartfelt video message encouraging folks to “Reach out to a Pick Up Man or be a Pick Up Man.” That message continues to echo through CFD performances, reminding us that support is strength, and that asking for help is one of the bravest things you can do.
#1 Properties is a proud supporter of the Pick Up Man campaign and yellow feathers are available at each of our locations. Wear one to show your support, start a conversation, or simply let someone know they’re not alone. You can also find official Pick Up Man merchandise at Chute 10 Mercantile, with net proceeds going to local suicide prevention organizations like Grace for 2 Brothers and the Wyoming Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

This initiative is more than a campaign — it’s a call to action. Suicide rates in the Rocky Mountain West remain among the highest in the country. Together, we can break the silence around mental health.
Because when life gets hard everyone deserves a Pick Up Man.
